the last remaining truly public space.

I love the library.

Like, forreal. I can go in there and take aaaalllllll the books I want? Fo free??

And you're going to give me a date to have them back by but I'm going to forget and they'll ride around in my car with me for 3 months before I bring them back and it'll be just fine? You'll let me do it again and again and again??

I saw a book that looked interesting over the weekend so I used the app to reserve it at the library and picked it up today. While I was there I grabbed a few more. I'm excited to dig in and learn a bunch about journaling and journal making. I started bullet journaling a few weeks ago in an attempt to get my life together (this was about a week prior to the Strattera) and holy smokes has it made a difference. I have a clear view of what's going on with all the moving parts in my life. I track if I'm eating (I forget), my water, my Duolingo Spanish (40 day streak!!), and other habits I'm trying to cultivate. I've been trying to learn tarot better for years and I'm doing a card a week and digging in and seeing how it applies to my world. I journal twice a day for twenty minutes and brain dump whatever is swirling around in there. I feel like it's like a pensieve (fuck JKR, btw). It's a way to get the thoughts out so they're not taking up so much room and allows you to look back at them from another angle. Because I'm a maker and a doer and a shower, I'm making them now too. Handbound, Personalized Leather Journals.

They're pretty dope, yall.

Anyway, back to the library. While traveling Friday, my companion needed to take a meeting. No prob, found a library on the way and rented a room. We had horrrrrrible reception in the mountains. There was none. We needed to reset the GPS to get somewhere but didn't have service. Oh, look. A library. Jumped on their wifi and good to go. While I was in mine today I noticed tax prep stuff (in Spanish and English), job resources, fliers for non-profits, all kinds of story times and stuff for kids, computers to use, and friendly people that asked me if I needed help. Other local libraries have 3D printers and sewing machines. Not to mention Libby and Hoopla that you get access to with your library card to rent audiobooks and stuff for your e-reader.

All free. Well, your taxes pay for it but that's what they should be used for. Stuff that benefits us. The library is truly the last remaining free public space. You're allowed to be there without spending a dime. Where else can you say that? So much of our social lives revolve around spending money or drinking alcohol (while spending money...). We need more spaces where we can just be and be around other people.

Anybody else a big fan of the library??

Go say hi to those nice folks that want to help you find a good book.

The Library was truly my safe space growing up when school was out. I would be there until I absolutely had to be home.

I basically lived in the library when I was in college! Why don't I retreat there now??
