Garden stroll this am showed so many plants in flower I thought I'd share.
Some flowers, like kale, cilantro, and yarrow, signal the end of a cycle. Many plants are less palatable once they've put their energy into forming flower and fruit. This is called bolting.
Others, the beginning. The flowers form early to attract pollinators and give away to yummy fruits and veggies! Here we see tomato, cucumber, and blue Coco bean flowers and fruit!
Some flowers are just there to attract pollinators and ensure continuation of the species. The image below has (L to R) echinacea, swamp milkweed, thyme, butterfly milkweed, comfrey, and boneset)
Either way, flowers bring pollinators, seeds, and fruit.
Take time to enjoy and sniff. They're a bonus benefit of gardening!
My favorite flower, okra, is related to hibiscus. I've planted two kinds and I cannot wait to see them!!
Tell me in the comments:
What's your favorite flower?
