Garden Update 7/8/25

IT'S JULY AND ITS HOT.

Like, I have lived in MD my entire life and I am still surprised by how very hot and heavy the air can get. Just muggy.

I still prefer it to this crap.

The garden has gone through so many changes in the last six months (heck, so have I!)

But here she is 😍

 Roughly the same spot, July

There was wood in the way and I wasn't exactly in a parkour mood so it's not exactly the same spot but close enough. You can't even see the other beds through the long bean curtain.

Btw, look at these beauties!!

Long beans!!
Long beans!!

These were a surprise this season

Both in how prolific they are and in their size!!

The greens are just about done with the callaloo really starting to show insect pressure.

I'll pull them soon to make way for fall veg

Oh, you don't know about fall gardening? You should come to my Workshop July 19! I'll talk about small space gardening for fall - what you can grow in the space you have. Tickets can be bought here!!

Tomatoes and cucumbers are popping along despite deer and whoever else thinking I'm growing them a buffet and the cushaw squash are stretching their lil vines!

Trellising the squash, Armenian melon, and watermelon are high on the to-do list but the body is just not cooperating as much as I'd like.

In the meantime, I'll obsessively check this lil Golden Midget watermelon.

You are perfect and I love you forever.

The whole garden could use watering and a good dose of fish emulsion. Calling for storms tonight through possibly the rest of the week so whenever that wraps up I'll fertilize.

Here's more pics just cus she's pretty.

Many Mid-Summer best wishes to you! May your days be full of sunblock and your nights full of lightning bugs!
